ALERT: Ready Your Clicker Fingers

Vote Week is here! This is the most crucial phase of the project. This is your last chance to shape the book. This is where voting gets serious! You ready? We're ready. Go vote vote vote! Actually hang on a second. We have a couple things we want to tell you before you get engulfed in voting. First, we ought to explain why Vote Week isn't actually a week. :) Simply put, it's because we're so very close to a million votes cast for the project. We think it would so cool to be able to say that people voted a million times to help shape the book. A million times!!! We're so excited about hitting that mark that we're willing to extend the vote period by a few days to make it happen. How lame would it be to end with 989,000 votes or something. So Vote Week is now officially Vote Week+3. Voting will end on August 25th. Please help us reach the million mark. Vote until your vote graph is 100%, then tell your friends to sign up and get their vote graphs to 100%. Second, we've got some preliminary details hammered out for the release party. Davis Kidd Booksellers is opening their doors and inviting all Capture Music City users to the book's release party. This will be the first public viewing of the book. Be sure to check back after Vote Week+3 has ended for more specifics, but for now mark on your calendar: Friday October 17th, 7:00 pm, Capture Music City Release Party at Davis Kidd Booksellers, 2121 Green Hills Village Drive, Nashville. Fill in the Gap Challenge Results

We asked you to submit pictures of things that were missing on Capture Music City and you certainly did - more than 1,300 photos worth! Wow! A lot of submissions were things we had already seen before, but some were very unique. Of the types of photos we had already seen, some new submissions were spectacular. Here's our faves. Obviously there were a lot more submitted and put into the vote flow, which means they could end up in the book. And that was the goal of this challenge - to be sure people were thinking about some off-the-wall photos and to be sure those photos had a chance to make the book. So thanks everyone! Now go vote for these gap fillers!

Calling Creative People

Hey Capture Music City folks! If there's one thing we've learned through this process, it's that Nashville has some truly creative and talented people. One of Capture Music City's sponsors, Nossi College of Art, has seen the great photos you've all posted and has set up a scholarship for Capture Music City users to reward all of the creativity and talent seen here. It's potentially worth $4,000, so it's a great idea for anyone interested in furthering their creative education. Check it out!

ALERT: Important Items of Note

Hey folks! We have a few housecleaning items everyone needs to be aware of so we thought we'd wrap them all up in one giant alert. First, do you realize there's about a week left to submit photos?!? That's not long at all! Be sure to check out the Fill the Gaps challenge and upload your finest photos in the last days. Once the counter in the top right reaches zero, submissions will close and Vote Week will begin. Vote Week is pretty self-explanatory. It's a week where everyone needs to garner all the support they can for their photos. It's a week to camp out on your computer in front of Capture Music City and try to get your vote percentage graph (on your user profile page) up to 100%! We should top 750,000 votes... It's going to be a mad dash to the finish! Before the counter reaches zero and Vote Week begins, we need everyone to shore up their captions. Remember, these photos will be put in a hard-bound fine-art book. It's going to sit on coffee-tables all over the place. We're going to try to use captions "as-is" for the most part, but if your photo has a caption that just doesn't make sense, or doesn't really describe the photo, or has a bunch of errors in it... well we might just have to skip it.. and we really don't want to do that. Bottom line: take a look at your captions and whip them into book-form shape! (To edit a caption click the "edit info" button on the photo's page.) Speaking of the book, the counter reaching zero also marks the end of the contributor discount on the book. If you've submitted a photo or voted for more than 150 photos, we gave you a coupon code worth $5 off every book you order. Be sure to head to the order page and click the "buy it now" button before the chance to save is gone. Two more items, then we'll let you get back to voting... We had a few users tell us they never saw an alert for the last three challenge results. So to be extra sure everyone gets a chance to see the results of the last three challenges, here they are: Fall, Winter and Spring. ALERT: Challenge: Fill the Gaps

Hey gang! The book is really starting to take shape. With about two weeks left in the submission phase of the contest, we've had just about every kind of photo submitted. You've made us laugh with some of your submissions, while others have made us stop what we're doing and marvel at the beauty and character of Nashville. Great job everyone! But the work isn't done! This is a crucial part of the project. We need to be sure to cover everything. If you think we're missing a certain building or an event, or maybe someone hasn't yet submitted the perfect shot of rose (actually, we've had hundreds of flower shots submitted, so we probably do have the perfect rose shot already), please let us know. To be sure we have every type of Music City photo, we're going to do another challenge. We're calling it "Fill the Gaps" and it's open to any photo that you haven't seen a ton of. For this one we're really only looking for new uploads of photos that cover obscure things, or things you think are missing as you poke around Capture Music City. In very generic terms, we need more photos of sports, recreation, dogs, cats, music (non-guitar), and... well, you look around and see what we're missing. Go out there and capture it, then submit it to this challenge. When you upload photos, you'll see a spot to enter photos for this challenge at the bottom. At the end of the challenge (August 8th), we'll feature our favorites. Getting featured is good because it means your photo will get more views, and thus, more votes. So get out there and take pictures of stuff we're missing!

Upgrades and Oopsies

Due to a few significant upgrades to the site (the biggest of which equates to a huge speed increase while voting), we've had some users report oddities in the vote percentage graph found on your user profile page. This news item is to inform you the vote percentage graph was erroneously reporting low vote percentage numbers for a short time, but the reporting is now fixed. No votes were lost or changed, just the count of percentages was off. We hope the speed boost is worth your trouble. Sorry for the counting error... math can sure be hard sometimes! Now go vote. It's speedy!

ALERT: Three Challenges: Winter, Fall and Spring

Capture Music City launched several weeks ago, which means most folks have been uploading photos they've been taking over the summer. That's awesome, of course, but we'd love to see a little more from the other seasons. What does Music City look like in the fall? How about winter and early spring? We're creating three new challenges: Winter, Fall and Spring. Post photos you've taken over the last year from winter, fall and spring into their respective challenge. This set of challenges ends July 27th. When you upload photos, you'll see a spot to enter photos for Winter, Fall or Spring at the bottom. To enter a photo you've already uploaded, go to your photo's edit page and enter it at the bottom of the page. To get to the edit page, click on the "Edit Photo" button on your photo's normal view. At the end of these challenges (July 27th), we'll feature our favorites from each season. Getting featured is good because it means your photo will get more views, and thus, more votes. So upload anything you've got that shows Music City in winter, fall or spring!

Mini-Challenge: Half-Million Votes

Voting is important. It determines the content of the book to a large degree. Not only that, it's fun! We know you agree because you've voted almost 500,000 times! Wow! At this stage in the game, there are a ton of photos to vote for, so get out there and vote like mad. We should reach the half-million vote mark in the next couple days. If you're the lucky voter, we'll give you some props (which leads to more votes for your photos). So go go go! Vote vote vote!

Summer is finally here. Hooray! You know what that means? Festivals, celebrations and parades. This weekend and next, there are a ton of community events all over Nashville. We want to see photos of community events (including all sorts of Independence Day celebrations). So check out one of the events below or find some other event to take your camera to, and take pictures like mad! This challenge ends July 7th. The 200,000th vote has been cast! User Nancy Diana placed the vote for a fireworks photo by Penny Adams. Way to go Nancy! Maybe we should do another race to a quarter-million votes... although that would be reached in the next two days at the current pace. Keep up the voting, everyone!
